They Got Chops is the first segment of episode 13 of season 4 in Dexter's Laboratory. In this episode, Dee Dee provokes Dexter with her judo skills, causing him to learn judo on his own and get back at her.

The episode was produced in 2003 and premiered on Cartoon Network in the United States on November 20 of that year.

Dexter plays with one of his limbless dolls as "Mr. Jones" and puts him in a toy car he uses as an Urban Terrain Vehicle, and he uses a toy dinosaur as the villainous Gordonzilla who then snatches up Mr. Jones, and the latter calls Dexter for help. Dexter is about to grab a wrench when Dee-Dee (clad in a karate outfit) grabs his arm, yells "Ashitake!", and throws him at the window, leaving a crack in it.

  • Although though most episodes premiered on Fridays, this episode (along with "Poetic Injustice and Comedy of Feathers") premiered on a Thursday, as part of Cartoon Network's "November Premieres" block, where a new episode of a Cartoon Cartoon would premiere on a random weekday throughout the month.
  • This is another episode where Dexter isn't in his lab.

Cultural references[]

  • The line "Ah, shiitake, hah!" references the 1960 Hanna-Barbera cartoon The Flintstones, from the episode "The Prowler".

  • The bookshelf where Dexter hide his laboratory is not seen in this episode.

Production Notes[]

  • Although this episode premiered in the United States on November 20, 2003, it was produced the same year according to the credits.
  • This episode was finished in February of 2003.[1]

  • Though this episode aired as the Season 4 finale of this show, it is actually the first part of 77th produced episode of Season 4, creating a continuity error in the American broadcast.
