The Old Switcharooms is the second segment of the thirtieth episode in season 2 of Dexter's Laboratory. It first aired March 4, 1998.
In this episode, Dexter and Dee Dee break Dad's bowling trophy after the latter refuses to give Dexter his Major Glory action figure back. Dad punishes them by sending them to each other's rooms to learn the importance of respecting other people's property. While in Dee Dee's room, Dexter becomes increasingly paranoid that she is destroying his laboratory.
Plot[]
At a bowling tournament, Dad racks up several strikes in a row and wins the championship. Upon returning home, Dad shows Mom the bowling trophy he won to Mom. When Dad calls for Dexter and Dee Dee, they run downstairs with the latter refusing to give Dexter his Major Glory action figure back to him despite his protests. They run circles around Dad and Dee Dee bumps into him, causing the trophy to fly out of his hands and break upon falling on the floor.
As Dad goes to tearfully look at his broken trophy, Dexter and Dee Dee retreat to their rooms, but instead, Dad has them go into each others' rooms, with Dee Dee gleefully entering Dexter's room. Dexter pleads to Dad about how Dee Dee will mess up his room, but changes his mind and heads to Dee Dee's room as Dad stomps up the stairs.
While in Dee Dee's room, Dexter starts to become paranoid about Dee Dee destroying his laboratory. He runs toward the wall and hears a fly landing on it, prompting him to think that Dee Dee is destroying his worktable and his beakers with a chainsaw. As Dexter listens in on the wall again, the ticking from Dee Dee's cat clock prompts him to think that Dee Dee is in his laboratory smashing things with a mallet.
Just then, Dexter gets the idea of heading out of Dee Dee's room while Dad is occupied with fixing his broken trophy. Upon reaching his room door, Dad says that Dexter will find himself in a worse punishment, prompting Dexter to go back into Dee Dee's room. In there, Dexter comes up with a plan to sneak to his laboratory by ripping the stuffing out of a teddy bear, pulling apart a pair of Dee Dee's underwear, and smashing her dollhouse with a stand-up lamp. Dexter, now cloaked in the stuffing and lampshade, pulls off the vent cover and heads down the shaft to find Dee Dee in his room sleeping.
Dad enters and tells Dee Dee that his trophy has been fixed and they go to Dee Dee's room to get Dexter. Along the way, Dad turns the thermostat down, blowing Dexter out of the house and onto the roof. He swings back into Dee Dee's room with the gutter. As Dad and Dee Dee enter and look at the now-trashed room, Dee Dee points out that Dexter is naked, with her index finger hitting the trophy and making Dad drop it once more. Dexter scolds Dee Dee for her clumsiness, earning him a frustrated growl from Dad.
That night, as Dexter is in the doghouse, he is confident that the family dog won't destroy his lab. However, the dog runs rampant in the laboratory knocking over things and causing destruction.
