Monstory is the third segment of the 13th and final episode in season one of Dexter's Laboratory. It first aired on January 1, 1997.
In this episode, Dee Dee becomes bent on telling Dexter a story that her friend Lila told her. To avoid hearing the long-winded tale, Dexter gives Dee Dee a potion to silence her, but he gives her an isotope that turns her into a monster.
Plot[]
As Dexter is in his laboratory performing a study on Horton's Theory of Who, Dee Dee enters and wants to tell Dexter a story about her going to meet her friend Lila, who told Dee Dee a story. She drives Dexter mad, who continuously tells her to shut up. Dexter then offers her a potion that she drinks. However, the potion makes Dee Dee talk louder than normal, and after Dexter realizes what he gave her, Dee Dee, who is now a monster, towers over her younger sibling.
Fed up with him not listening to her story, Dee Dee starts crying, and Dexter watches as her echoing wails cause a tremor and destroy nearly everything inside the lab. Angered, Dexter orders Dee Dee to shut up then uses a monster potion on himself to counter Dee Dee. Suddenly, Dexter transforms into a slug-like creature and slithers to hide while Dee Dee chases after him.
As Dexter is inside a cocoon enjoying his rest, Dee Dee sits nearby and watches him. Several months pass, and Dexter emerges from his cocoon just as a timer rings. Excited to see her brother awake, Dee Dee continues on with her story, prompting Dexter to bust through a wall. Dee Dee suddenly enlarges, with her fur turning into a creamy white complexion. In the city, Dexter tiptoes trying to hide from Dee Dee, but she finds him trying to climb a building. While Dee Dee is distracted with a police officer, Dexter climbs down from the building and runs away with Dee Dee, who is now an arachnid-like monster, scuttling after him.
A brawl between the siblings commences, with them destroying the buildings in the process. Dee Dee emerges victorious from the fight then continues with her story, which ended in a knock-knock joke. Dexter screams to the cosmos as a four-layered magnifying glass looks at them.

- The episode is a parody of the popular kaiju monster movies seen in Japan with both Dexter and Dee Dee parodying two monsters from the Godzilla franchise:
- Dexter's monstrous transformation parodies Godzilla.
- Dee Dee's transformation resembles Kumonga, a spider-like monster.
- Her first monster form resembles Big Bird or Zoe from Sesame Street
- At the beginning of the episode, Dexter talks about his "recent study of Horton's theory of Who." This is a reference to the Dr. Seuss book "Horton Hears a Who".
- The city in which Dexter and Dee Dee fight in resembles New York City. The reference strengthens when both Dexter and Dee Dee climb up the same tall building in the same fashion kaiju King Kong climbs up the Empire State Building, which is located in New York.
- The title of this episode translated into Japanese would be Bakemonogatari, which is a popular Japanese anime franchise.
Goofs/Errors[]
- When Dexter and Dee Dee start attacking each other, for a second, when Dee Dee grabs Dexter's body with her arms, they turn purple, the same color as Dexter's skin. Then they turn back to the normal color shortly afterwards.

- Although this episode along with "Inflata Dee Dee" and "The Justice Friends: Can't Nap" were aired on January 1, 1997, they were produced in 1996 according to the credits. They were also the last episodes in season one of Dexter's Laboratory to be produced in the same year, coinciding with the merging of Time Warner and Turner Entertainment..
- The character and background designs of the show are slightly changed after this episode.
- This is the last episode until "Streaky Clean"/"A Dad Cartoon"/"Sole Brother" to feature the Cartoon Network Studios logo, as all Season 2 episodes and "Ego Trip" credit the production studio as Hanna-Barbera Cartoons. Also, this is the last episode copyrighted to Cartoon Network Studios.
