Let's Save the World You Jerk! is the second part of the 25th episode in the second season of Dexter's Laboratory. In this episode, Dexter and Mandark try to stop a giant asteroid from hitting Earth.

Plot

A giant asteroid is headed toward Earth. Dexter goes into space in his giant robot, Robo-Dexo 2000, and uses a beam to try and stop it, but he breaks it into a group of asteroids, which hit his robot. Dexter has to call someone to help him stop the asteroids from hitting the Earth, and the only person available for this is Mandark. Mandark wants to do this himself, so he goes in his giant robot, the Mandark-Bot, to stop the asteroids, but he is also unable to do it alone. Dexter and Mandark decide to team up to destroy the asteroids, and they build another robot that they can both use to do this. But when they go into space they start fighting and get distracted, so the asteroids hit and destroy the Earth. Dexter and Mandark continue to fight over whose fault it was.

Notes

  • This episode was later adapted into Issue #2 of the Dexter's Lab comic, however it used the character designs from seasons 3 and 4 as well as some altered dialogue.
  • Third time the President of the USA is mentioned. First time was in "The Big Sister" and the second time was in "Critical Gas" (where he was physically seen).
  • First appearance of Mandark-Bot and DeeDee-Bot in this episode.
  • This is the first time when Dexter and Mandark are fighting.
  • Out of all the episodes in the entire series, this one is arguably the least canonical due to the episode ending with Earth destroyed and most of the characters outside of Dexter & Mandark ending up dead.

Goofs/Errors

  • When Dexter and Mandark are about to hit their ejector buttons, their voices matched up with the wrong halves of the ship.
  • Robo-Dexo 2000 and Mandark-Bot are accidentally shapeshifting by failure into a War Tank, a Pistol Gun and a DeeDee-Bot.
  • Dexter opens the "Warning cage for a "Detach and Separate" button mistakenly inside the Mandark-bot and Mandark mistakenly inside the Robo-Dexo 2000.

Production Notes

  • Although this episode is aired in 1998, it was actually made in 1997 according to the credits.
