Labels is the first segment of the seventh episode in season 2 of Dexter's Laboratory. It first aired on August 27, 1997.

In this episode, Dexter gets annoyed with Dee Dee taking his things without asking. He then creates a label-maker to counter this issue. However, things get more complicated when Dee Dee creates her own label-maker.

Plot[]

In the living room, Dexter and Dee Dee are fighting with each other over the armchair. Dexter pushes Dee Dee off the armrest and onto the floor. When The Puppet Pals Show went to commercial, Dexter goes to the kitchen to get some popcorn, but upon returning to the living room, he sees Dee Dee in the armchair and she takes the bowl of popcorn and eats it, rubbing in that neither the chair nor the popcorn have his name on them, much to Dexter's irritation.

At breakfast the next morning, Dee Dee reaches for one of Dexter's waffles. He enters the kitchen donning a pair of golden brass knuckles and places his name on the waffle. In the living room, as Dee Dee walks by reading a TV magazine, Dexter jumps down and labels both it and the family dog.

Dee Dee gets an idea. She goes into her room's closet to find the Labelmatic 2600. In the kitchen, Dexter was punching his name onto various foods when Dee Dee enters brandishing the Labelmatic 2600 and putting her labels on everything in there, including Dexter's brass knuckles. Dexter then sees a huge bottle of apple juice and drinks it whole.

In the upstairs hallway, Dexter runs to the bathroom, but upon opening the door, he sees that Dee Dee had labeled her name on the toilet and the toilet paper. In his laboratory, Dexter creates his own label maker using Dee Dee's as a reference point.

Back in the living room, Dee Dee was roaming around placing her label on everything when the power suddenly goes out. Dexter emerges from the fireplace wielding his label maker and firing his labels at Dee Dee. When he takes aim at Dee Dee's doll, she lunges for it and runs to hide behind a wall. Seeing that she's nowhere, Dexter then heads to Dee Dee's room where he labels everything in there, including Dee Dee's Darbie doll.

Back in the hallway, the siblings fire a flurry of labels at each other, plastering them all over the walls and furniture. When they notice that the dog hasn't been labeled, the dog runs away, only for Dexter to label him. During the crossfire, Dee Dee labels Dexter's forehead. He tried to remove the label, but to no avail. Suddenly, Mom and Dad both come home to see the mess. Dexter tells them that Dee Dee was the one responsible for it, but he gets sent to Dee Dee's room as punishment after being mistaken for her. As Dad and Mom walk down the hallway, the latter notices that the carpet's wet.

Trivia[]

Notes[]

  • With the toilet labeled by Dee Dee, Dexter apparently went to the bathroom on the upstairs carpet. Note that Mom mentions the carpet being wet.
  • The members of Dexter's family seem to have different points of view when it comes to labels. When Dexter or Dee Dee see someone's name on an object, they think it belongs to that person. When Mom or Dad see someone's name on an object, they think that is the name of that object.
  • This is the first time Dexter is punished by his father by making him be Dee Dee's roommate.

Cultural references[]

  • The way Dexter labels his waffle is a reference to the 1989 film Do the Right Thing, where the character Radio Raheem does a similar left-hand, right-hand pose.

Production Notes[]

  • Although this episode is aired on 1997, It was made in the same year according to the credits.
