Cultural References[]

  • This episode was a parody of Marvel Comics storyline of "The Champion of the Universe", in which The Champion challenges Earth's heroes (consisting of Namor, Doc Samson, Thor, Hulk, Wonder Man, Sasquatch, Colossus, and Thing) to a boxing match, rather than wrestling. Like Monkey, Thing refused to give up and earned The Champion's respect, thus sparing Earth from destruction.
  • This episode featured two unnamed Justice Friends who would never appear again. One of them was a bowman-themed hero who appeared to be a parody of DC's Green Arrow and Marvel's Hawkeye, and the one was an animal-themed hero who appeared to be a parody of Marvel's Wolverine and Beast.
