Critical Gas is the first segment of the 25th episode in the second season of Dexter's Laboratory. It first aired on February 4, 1998.

In this episode, Dexter orders a Big Bad Burrito from Burrito Palace and consumes all of it. While working, he starts having strong abdominal pain as he works on his experiments. Following him seeing a balloon pop from overinflation, Dexter believes he is going to die and uses his remaining time to make a bucket list.

As Dexter writes on a sheet of paper in his laboratory, his watch reminds him that it is lunchtime. He goes to order a Big Bad Burrito from Burrito Palace, and consumes it bit by bit. Just after finishing it, Dexter suddenly starts having stomach cramps and Computer tells him that there is gas building inside his stomach at a high rate.

To experiment, Dexter draws a face of himself on a balloon and places it on a pump to inflate it with air. After it overinflates, the balloon pops and Dexter comes under the belief that he is going to die soon. He quickly comes up with a bucket list and acts on it within 30 minutes.

He starts off by going to the kitchen wearing his bunny pajamas to please Mom. As he hops around like a real bunny, Dexter goes to make Dad happy by giving him his own personal bowling alley. Back in his lab, Dexter groups many robots together and orders them to be free. They leave after Dexter makes it clear that he wants them to go out. When the robots leave, they celebrate the thought of being free, but their time is cut short as an oncoming 18-wheeler runs over all of them.

Dexter checks over his bucket list and is halfway done. Next, Dexter brings world peace, ends world hunger by enlarging a strawberry, and learns to tap dance. He crosses off other things on the list, and the last thing to do was to be nice to Dee Dee. He lets her enter the lab and cause chaos. Dexter then goes to tell Computer about his time on the planet coming to an end and is doing a permanent system shutdown. Just after, Dexter presses a red button and everything in the lab shuts down.

In the living room, Dexter turns the TV off and prepares to tell Mom and Dad that he is about to die, but before he does so, Dexter suddenly lets loose a loud fart that echoes throughout the galaxy. Mom and Dad look at their son in shock as he blushes with the TV blown into the wall. As the episode ends, Dexter lets out another fart just as the iris closes in on him.

  • Second time the President of the USA is mentioned and the first time he is physically seen. First time was in "The Big Sister" and the third time was in "Let's Save the World You Jerk!". Like in "The Big Sister", the President is a parody of Bill Clinton.

  • Considering that the Big Bad Burrito itself is approximatelly three times the size of Dexter, is a little ridiculous that Dexter could ate the entire Burrito in only some minutes, and even he didn't get a stomach ache or an indigestion for ate a huge meal in comparison to his own size.

  • The title of the episode is an allusion to "Critical Mass" which is the smallest amount of fissile material needed for a sustained nuclear reaction.
