Chubby Cheese is the second segment of the second episode in season 2 of Dexter's Laboratory. It first aired on July 23, 1997.

In this episode, Dexter and his family go to Chubby Cheese's for their time out together. While there, Dexter tampers with one of the Whack the Weasel machines to win a Monkey plush before Dee Dee does. When he is caught by security, Dexter falls into the hands of a mad scientist.

Summary[]

Dexter and his family go for dinner at Chubby Cheese. Dexter tries to win the stuffed Monkey doll by using one of his inventions to slow down the "Whack-a-Weasel" arcade game. However, the security officers capture him, and Dexter finds out that the head of the restaurant is a mad scientist who wants his assistance.

Plot[]

Mom and Dad take Dexter and Dee Dee to Chubby Cheese's, a family fun restaurant. When Dexter uses science to beat Dee Dee in a game, he's whisked away behind the scenes by the evil organization that runs the restaurant. This group is intent on raking the kids and parents for lots of dough and achieving world domination.

Characters[]

Trivia[]

  • This is the second out of four segments to feature Allison Moore as the voice of Dee Dee in season two instead of Kat Cressida.
  • Dee Dee has also displayed the unusual ability to see into the future and talks to the stuffed monkey about where the organization had taken Dexter.
  • The audience flying away ala Peter Pan at the end of Chubby's song is an animation error due to miscommunication between storyboard artists and Korean animators. According to the
    70ievp
original storyboard, the audience is supposed to "take off" after the show, which means "leave". But the animators mistakenly thought of it as "fly away". However, when the animation came back from Korea, the domestic production staff found it so hilarious that rather than ask for a retake, they kept the scene in, adding appropriate sound effects to the flying audience.
  • This is one of the few episodes where the lab is not shown.
  • Although Dexter is shown to hate Chubby Cheese later episodes show that he loves to go there. It could be possible that Dexter has gotten used to it at some point after the events of this episode.

Cultural References[]

  • Many of the mechanical mascots at the restaurant are based on the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters.
    • As Dexter crawled across the stage looking for his glasses, he passed by animatronics of Hair Bear, Boo-Boo, Paw Rugg, and Squiddly Diddly.
    • In the song montage, animatronics of Peter Potamus, So-So, Breezly Bruin Sneezly Seal, and Punkin' Puss are shown.
    • A Grape Ape animatronic sang one of the final lines of the song.
  • Both the episode's name and the location itself are a parody of the pizza chain Chuck E. Cheese's. The animatronics are also a parody of the characters from said location.
