Better Off Wet is the third part of the 24th episode in season 2 of Dexter's Laboratory, which first aired on January 28, 1998. In this episode, Dad tries to get Dexter to swim in the new pool, only for his attempts to fail numerous times.

At sunrise Dee Dee wakes up, looks out the window, and gets hyped to play in the pool. Dexter is on the other hand more aloof about swimming saying he'll get there in his own time. Dee Dee suffers from memory loss, but needs head trauma to remind her of her previous mission, then jump-cuts into her bathing suit, arrives at the pool in her sandals that she throws off, and puts on his swimcap before diving into the water. Dexter strolls downstairs in some dapper swimwear. (white sunhat and purple sunglasses flip-flops and robe over his trunks and using his towel as a scarf) while mom goes by, wearing a green bikini and her green pumps, and asks Dexter if he is ready to get wet.

While stretching and applying sunscreen, Dexter sees dad greeting him and this triggers a flashback of previous times his father has violated his autonomy by pushing him into the pool before he was ready to go in. Traumatized by the flashback and probability of this being another one of those times he runs away, onto the roof the house while mom, having taken off her pumps and putting them away, stands on the diving board, walks onto the end of it, and bends up, but jumps into the air, and dives into the pool, only to swim under the water for a moments, just before she pops back up and asks Dexter to come in, because the water's nice, just before she disappears and swims under the water.

Dee Dee, Mee Mee, and Lee Lee perform synchronized swimming complete with underwater hula hooping, jet stream platforms, and finishing with a two on one pyramid.

Dad nearly startles Dexter into the pool with the girls distracting him, but fails as Dexter stumbles off their heads onto the other side of the pool. Annoyed dad finds his wife to be a more unsuspecting victim and pushes her into the pool while she is checking to see if the water is nice. Dee Dee tries to tackle dad into the pool, but gets clotheslined by falling into the pool herself, finally Dexter finds time while dad is distracted by his own hubris. Dexter pushes dad into the pool and jumps into the pool himself.

Dad congratulates his son for finally making it into the pool on his own terms and all looks well until it is revealed that Dexter's swimsuit is floating next to them and Dexter gets out of the pool naked unknowingly and the cartoon ends with Dexter unknowingly giving his family a full frontal as the family laughs at his nudity as if he should tied the string on his trunks properly to wear while swimming.
