A Silent Cartoon is the second segment of the eighth episode in season three of Dexter's Laboratory. It first aired on June 14, 2002.

In this episode, Dexter is trying to design his lab and wants to paint it blue, but Dee Dee intervenes and wants to make the lab pink.

Dexter enters with a blueprint and rolls it out on top of a desk. As Dexter steps away, Dee Dee enters and places her pinkprint on top of Dexter's blueprint. Dexter returns to inspect the pinkprint and heads to get some pink wooden planks and pink paint, but he stops and sees Dee Dee's pinkprint over his blueprint, which he crumples up and tosses aside. As Dexter goes to get blue wooden planks and blue paint, he walks past the table and notices another pinkprint on top of his blueprint, which he tears up and walks away. The blueprint rolls up to reveal Dee Dee's pinkprint underneath it, and Dexter, fed up with the charade, hammers the blueprint in place, and walks away.

Later, Dexter and Dee Dee lay out blue and pink tiles in rows. After they finish, Dexter realizes that there are pink tiles in the mix, and both he and Dee Dee do the tiles over. On the third attempt, Dexter gets fed up with the tiles and tosses the blue tiles around, leaving the floor of the lab in a checkerboard format. Dexter starts crying and walks away.

Dexter later welds the walls of the laboratory together, and as he reaches for the next blue piece, Dee Dee passes him a pink wall that he welds together. After Dexter finishes, he sees a long line of pink walls and runs to get a bulldozer to get rid of the pink walls.

Fourth, Dexter, now operating a scissor-lift, moves up to the ceiling and screws in blue light bulbs into the sockets. However, Dee Dee trails behind Dexter and replaces the blue light bulbs with pink light bulbs. At the light switch, Dexter activates the power and the laboratory is covered in a pink glow. He turns around and lays on his back. Dee Dee smugly moves her eyebrows then walks away.

  • This is the second episode that features no dialogue, with the first being DiM.

Cultural References[]

  • The episode's plot is a reference to the Pink Panther series of cartoons, mainly the early cartoons due to a lack of dialogue. It is mostly a homage to The Pink Panther short film The Pink Phink. The music score is largely a jazzy rendition of Dee Dee's theme tune, resembling Henry Mancini's The Pink Panther theme music.
